Philosophical Counseling Online
Philosophical counseling (also called philosophical consultancy or practice) means working on your own questions and problems with the help of philosophy. It draws on a long tradition of critical thinking, reflection and dialogue, and applies it to the dilemmas and big questions of your life. Psychotherapy deals mainly with emotional wounds and mental health. Philosophical counseling is about thinking clearly, reasoning through ethical questions and finding meaning in what we go through. It suits people who want to lean on the great philosophers in their own struggles, to stand "on the shoulders of giants," as Bernard of Chartres put it.
Some of the most common topics in philosophical counseling:
- Life Changes: Managing changes in career, relationships, or personal identity.
- Ethical Dilemmas: Making decisions that fit your values.
- Existential Questions: Questions about purpose, meaning and mortality.
- Personal Growth: Knowing yourself better and living in a way that feels true to you.
- Philosophical Mentoring: Understanding philosophical ideas and how they apply to your life.
Philosophical Consultations
In a session we talk through the questions, problems and choices that matter most to you right now. Through questions and reflection we try, among other things, to name and clarify your values and beliefs, think moral dilemmas through carefully, uncover the hidden assumptions and habits of thought behind your decisions, and look at existential questions such as the purpose of life, freedom and the fact that everything passes.
Each meeting starts from what you bring: a big decision, a hard period of change, or simply wanting to understand yourself and the world better.
We meet at regular times, in 50-minute sessions.
If you'd like to look at your questions through philosophy, get in touch. We'll look for a way forward that fits your values, your spirituality and your goals.
